Cycling: Cranston wins Madigan GP

EAST Antrim Cycling Club’s Gary Cranston won the recent Madigan GP.

He put a explosive attack in on the first hill out of Eden as a group of 10 went clear. Strong riding from Cranston saw the group fracture on the roads of Glynn, Gleno and Beltoy. The final attack at Gleno saw him go clear and hold of the chase group for the win.

On Sunday, Gary, Glenn Kinning, Stephen Beck, William Larmour and Kieran McKenna lined up for the Tour of Armagh. A break went clear early without any EACC riders in it.

They then took up the chase early and slowly reeled the break in. Thomas Martin remained clear and held a 15-second gap for the last few miles.

Despite hard riding, he could not be caught and won the race. Cranston finished sixth in the bunch sprint.

The club’s riders were set to compete in the Dave McCall Memorial race on Saturday (August 11) at Dundrod before the GP.
