Ten years ago today, Derry City secured one of their best ever nights in European football.

Stephen Kenny’s side had a memorable 5-1 victory over Gretna, at Motherwell’s Fir Park stadium, in the UEFA Cup.

Ryan McGuffie gave the Scottish side an early lead but Darren Kelly levelled things just before the break, before City steam rolled their opponents in the second half, scoring wonder goal after wonder goal in the process.

Now Institute manager Kevin Deery, fired home two memorable strikes, before midfielder Ciaran Martyn, who is currently plying his trade at Glenavon, also netted a brace.

City’s great UEFA Cup run in 2006, which saw them beat Swedish side IFK Gothenburg home and away, ended in France, with giants Paris Saint Germain defeating the Candystripes 2-0 in the Parc des Princes, after the first leg at the Brandywell had ended scoreless.
