Great start to campaign as Larne bowlers outshine Ewarts

Andy Kyle made his return in a Larne shirt but fellow big-money signing Jason Kerr was unavailable. A tough game was anticipated as the home team had also strengthened their ranks.

David McRandal’s quartet battled away through the opening ends and found themselves level at 5-5 after 7 ends. President Gavin Johnston moved through the gears over the next seven ends, inspiring the rink to build a significant 22-5 advantage.

The remaining ends saw the home rink rally but David’s men had done the damage and recorded an excellent 25-12 win.

Andy Kyle’s four began their game strongly to lead 9-1. Third Paul Robinson and Andy played well but were undone on several occasions as their opposition fought back to level the scores 12-12.

The game ebbed and flowed for the Larne rink over the remaining ends but a loss of 3 on the penultimate end proved decisive and they ended the game with a 19-22 defeat.

Michael Murphy’s rink of Harry Millar, Eddie Wilson and Andrew Robinson got off to a flier as they raced into a 16-3 lead after 7 ends. All four were on top of their game as they continued to pummel their opposition 25-5.

A late rally from the home team reduced Michael’s winning margin to 13 but it was still a fine win and a great performance to win 30-17.

Alan McLean’s men didn’t get off to a great start and trailed 2-11 after 7 ends. The home rink were making life difficult for Alan as he still trailed by 10 going into the final third of the match. The Larne rink, despite not playing their best bowls, chipped away and ended the game with a 17-23 defeat.

The overall score meant Larne won the game comfortably by 17 shots and took five points, an excellent result away from home.

Michael’s rink had the team ahead from early on and David’s men helped stretch the lead to ensure the overall result.

Andy was disappointed not to win his first game back but played well and will certainly be a big asset throughout the season.

Alan missed regular third Raymond Lyness but will undoubtedly form a good backend partnership with Simon Bell in coming weeks.

Next up is another away fixture against Belmont.
